I have a 10 month old sprocker and she has fairly long hairy ears. When i got her she was treading on them when she walked so i trimmed about an inch or two off the bottom of them. I also find they get a bit matted behind them where the hair is softer. I do make a point of grooming her ears every day but just wondered if anyone trims their spaniels ears or if there is a particular item that would help

We always used to trim our spaniels ears. They got long and matted so easily, obv we still regualrly brushed but often would cut the ends off and thin the hair out. I found just gentley combing through worked well.

Our springers ears used to be clipped when she was groomed, if you have some home clippers you can use these just not the shortest blades or it will look very odd!

The groomer did Henrys when he had his haircut, he seems happier now and gets less debris trapped in the fur and fewer tangles. I loved his hairy lugs but I am going to keep them shorter now.

Sweep has a short back and sides about every 3 months - just gets too hot otherwise!! - and it includes his ears!! Its easier all round to keep his coat, ears etc short - not least as we live on a farm and Sweep spends as much time as possible sitting in the brook, climbing the muck heap....I'm sure you get the drift!!

Should say I don't clip him the groomer does as he gets really grumpy with me when I try and do any kind of grooming but loves the lady who does him - big hairy stinky turncoat!!!
