Last summer our spaniel came in from the garden shaking, very quiet and clingy to me. Kept trying to bite/lick at his bum. I wondered if he had come across a snake. Having frisked him all over, spoken to the vet (it was a Sunday evening naturally). Vet said to monitor 24 hours he was back to normal and we went to the vet in the week. They found nothing.

Today the same thing. He’s been mooching about in the garden with my husband and I. He suddenly reappeared from under the hedge and hot footed it to the house. He’s been really shaky and feeling very sorry for himself. He’s clinging on to me under a blanket on the sofa.
He isn’t as quiet as he was last time but he is licking at his bum/ tail again.

I’m stumped. He is a bit of a wuss though.
Gums are fine, breathing is fine and when I sit with him he stops shaking.

Any ideas? I also wish he knew when it was a Sunday and I’d rather he didn’t have to go to the out of hours vet!

Brambles coming up through the ground, I put my hand directly on a new one emerging when gardening the other day. The damn thorn went right through my glove despite looking very young and soft, if you know what I mean? I certainly wouldn't have wanted to park my naked posterior on it!
