Anyone know anything about temperament.
Have been out of Arab scene for a while and know I like crabbet types but never heard of this new fangled Spanish type :o

I don't quite understand what you mean by "crabbet" and "fangled", but I know a bit about spanish arab. In fact I know a few people that own some, and there's a breeder not that far from where I live.
They are supposed to be a good balance between the nature and the nice arab look.

ok... thats where my lack of english vocabulary cause me troubles... I could say a lot more in french... At least, I've tried...

Dont know, of any..
But I own an arab and an adalusian, and I can only think that they would be a fantastic riding horse...I would have one in a heartbeat !

Don't know of any Spanish Arabs close to the Crabbet type, nor Russian or French for that matter.
But there is such a thing as a Hispano Arabe. Not sure on the breed in the slightest but I've ridden one and he was a very chunky Spanish type horse.

I think you are asking about Hispano Arabs. There is a society in the UK but can be registered with BAPSH as far as I know.

No, it's not about hispano arabs. There are different type of arabs among the world because there were different sort of selections in different countries.
Thats why you have Egyptian Arabs, French Arabs, Russian Arabs and... Spanish Arab. They all have their characteristics, but they all are purebred arabs.

Many Spanish arabs have Crabbet in their heritage, but all of them are bred to be ridden and all the ones I have come across are great. Although I am on the other side of the world I started with high percentage Crabbet (Skowronek/Gainey) and brought in some Spanish which I intened to cross, but decided to stop breeding. I still think that they would have been fantastic using (riding) horses!!

thanks all
yes it is purebred arabs of a spanish type I was meaning
Esther-thanks for the link :)

well as long as i learn the spanish for whoah!, should all work out? :)

oops my bad

should have remembered that given we already have one arab who has to have a kiss before you put the bridle on (makes my 15yr old son look a bit loopy when tacking up at a competion :D)

Oh I am so sorry I misunderstood, I can be a bit dippy. Ok, a lot dippy.... durrr to me x

Mine has Russian, Spanish, Egyptian and American lines...the American lines are descended from Crabbet bred horses:D

She thinks her name is "Dinner!"...there is no "whoa", to the best of my knowledge...

My gelding is by Barif (Spanish arab) out of a Crabbet mare. I wish he'd been left as a stallion as in the arab world his lines are now quite rare. On the other hand...ummm....no...he's enough of a handful as he is...

We have a straight Spanish Arab mare. She is a fabulous horse with a superb temperament, substantial, yet refined. Last week, she just had her third foal, at the age of 23, by our Russian stallion. In her earlier years, she raced and became a Gold Series Endurance horse. They were bred, as Esther correctly says, by the Spanish Military as warhorses.
