Hi All,

I have a part bred PRE and i'm not sure what to do with her mane, its currently long.

I want to do show jumping with her soon, what should i do with her mane? spanish plait it (these dont stay in very well?) or normal plait it but the plaits with be big and bulky if i did this?

I dont really want to pull it, as it makes her look less spanishy!!

Any advice would be great.

thanks x

If you look any really old photo's of racehorses, you will see them wearing plaits that are long. I think they look perfectly acceptable and after all, showjumping is not a turnout class. Section her mane and plait it as if you were going to roll the plait into a ball, but just sew it into braids that are 10cm long, as long as they are even, it will look tidy and keep her mane under control.

I wouldn't worry, you only need it to be tidy enough that you don't get tangled up in it, so divide into plaits, plait down about 6 inches from the neck and leave the rest free
