When I see the Spanish Riding School, it always strikes me how effortless it looks both for horse and rider. They go awfully close to the walls though, don't they?
I fancy a pair of those boots.

Those are late 17th century campaign boots (also known as 7 league boots); the SRS are the later 18c stovepipe boots, Jonny-come-latelies....If it's rigidity you want I cannot help you :)

Ah, but do they take you seven leagues in one stride? As they should with that name.

Always makes me cry. I guess I try and imagine why dressage is well.... dressage. I imagine how they would have gallantly headed with men on their backs into war.

These absolutely stunning heavenly creatures, strong, unique, and trusting taking equal humans into battle long ago. I can't help but feel an immense sadness and appreciation for what these creatures have done for humanity.

Imagine the dressage horse of today going into battle... well they couldn't see where they were going for a start so those riders would be a gonner. Note to self... modern dressage probably wouldn't save you if it came down to it :D

We saw them at Wembley too. I booked early and we got stuck in the end seats on the top row. That rather spoiled the experience for me unfortunately. I can remember we got lost driving home, came to a roundabout not far from Wembley and there were no signs telling us where to go. My husband drove round it a couple of times before taking an exit at random. Still glad we went though.

I saw them in Belfast in 2008. Had a ring side seat at the arena. They were breath-taking. I still have the souvenir brochure.

I saw them years ago somewhere (probably Wembley). We had ringside seats. They were doing in hand work, and right in front of us one of the riders/handlers was having to swear quietly under his breath and muttering threats to the stallion who had a slightly rebellious look in his eye. The horse didn’t put a foot wrong, but it made me smile! Nice to know they’re only human!
