Hi, does anyone have experience/own a Spanish saddle? I have a wide horse that is 7/8 Andalusian and I have been looking at Spanish saddles. She is quite wide with no withers and can throw in a mean buck making her quite hard to sit to at times. These saddles look so comfortable with a deep seat so I am thinking of changing to one but have no experience whatsoever with them!! Are they treeless or have to be fitted etc.?

Thank you for your help.

Hi, which type of Spanish saddle are you looking at, there are several? Traditional saddles all have trees, and yes if you are not experienced I would suggest finding someone who knows and understands Spanish saddles should check that it fits your horse.

I'm not hugely experienced with Spanish saddles but I did recently purchase an Iberosattel (made by Sommer) thats a sort of dressage/working equitation saddle. I mostly looked at Sommer and Iberosattel since they make saddles with wide and short panels. Plus, there are local dealers. Mine has a short back and seems to prefer this style panel with a wide gullet/channel area. It does have a tree.

You really need to sit in some. The ones I thought I would like, I actually didn't once I tried riding in them. I ended up with a model that honestly didn't appeal at all to me until I sat in it.

Iberosattel are not Spanish saddles; they're made by a German company and would fall under the general "baroque saddle" trend.

Which is why I said I am not hugely experienced with Spanish saddles ? Obviously they're made by a German company, as I said, Sommer. They would fall under a baroque saddle (trend?). But my sentence structure could use some work

I tried Zaldi, which has apparently gone down hill, Ludomar (which, actually, I cannot recall where they are from), Marjoman, and another that I cannot recall the name of. I think it just came from a small Spanish shop of sorts. So yes, I am inexperienced with Spanish saddles, but did buy a baroque saddle. The baroque saddles seem like a good halfway point between typical dressage and some of (because there are different styles) the actual Spanish saddles.
