Just when we though we had settled on the Portuguese Water Dog... I discover the Spanish! Anyone got one? Or know of any?
Just to explain reasoning behind the line of thought, we are looking for a reasonably high energy but trainable medium sized (ie smaller than Rottie) breed, we are fairly active people and want to do agility/fly ball type sports with new addition to the family.

I meet one when I'm out with our terrier. He was apparently very hard to come by (I'm in central Scotland) he seems very quiet and keeps himself to himself, not interested in my hooligan but who can blame him! Very attractive dog and a nice size, similar to a Bedlington in size and build but he is still quite young so I don't know if he'll get any bigger. Is that any help?

Thanks threeponies! Seems we like to pick the rare ones - neither portuguese nor Spanish water dogs seem easy to find! But he sounds nice!

One of my sisters has a spanish water dog, she paid a fortune for her (highlands of scotland) but she is a total sweetheart!
Unfortunately she had an accident somewhere along the lines (think it was something to do with my sister's young at the time kids :() and she now has problems with one of her back legs :(
She's lovely and when she's been clipped of her afro she looks very smart, when she has that mass of curly hair she's adorable! :D Very loving dog!

I'm one of the original importers of the breed into the UK. They are a fantastic, intelligent breed, but socialisation, socialisation, socialisation is needed. They can be wary of people that they don't know. Can be trained to do things extremely quickly and can get you around their little paws easily :)
