It will have been a year since we lost Tommy Tittlemouse tomorrow evening
So much has changed since then.
Just a post to remember one of the biggest horses on the board [biggest both in size and heart!] Some of you may remember him. Some may not. But that doesn't matter.
I still remember his advert about 4 months before we finally got him, Rushy was in love the moment she saw him and words were along the lines of 'He'd set the showing ring alight'.
Their 4 hour trip to get him, after already being up for about 3 days solid of moving from Norfolk to Wiltshire and back about 3 times. Getting the lorry ready and having to have a WHOLE half of an 11tn HGV lorry partitioned into one just to fit him in!
And then there's my first sight of him....a huge handsome dark bay beastie doing an insane milton worthy jump from the top of the lorry ramp, right to the bottom and landing about 3ft further!
His first ride out. Rushy on him [who really doesn't do hacking btw!] and me on my 'new' horse I'd just picked up on the move down too [Bustie] and an old friend on a pony we had. I spent the hack cantering on the spot on an excited TB....mainly watching and being in hysterics with Rushy who was on all 18.2/3hh of a jogging, snorting, lathered up white, excited beasty!
And we didn't stop till we were back on the yard. LOL. He liked his hack. He soon proved to be the chilled, laid back lovely saint he always had been though.
His schooling was spot on virtually, so he spent most his days hacking for fitness. Hacking him was an absolute joy. Solid as a rock and stopped people in their tracks. I remember a woman in the village the first day I took him out who was on the phone to someone and the convo went something like 'Hold on a sec...the most gorgeous giant has just appeared!' and proceeded to have a 5 minute chat with her who was just mystified by him.
Cows were his one 'entertainment in life' however....I made the mistake of hacking by them once on him and never again did I attempt it!!! Haha. All I remember is wondering whether I was going to end up; on the small Punto's bonet with an old lady growing to look rather nervous the closer we got....in the ditch....or over the hedge!
And then just in general. He was the sweetest thing put on this planet. You could leave him with the kids to handle on their own. Put kids on him. Anything. He was just the biggest saint put on this earth.
It's true when they the good ones are always taken too early.
So tomorrow, whether you own one, share one or even just ride one, especially if you have one them 'special ones'....take a moment to remember just how much they mean to you. Give them a cuddle, take them on your favourite ride, give them an extra treat....or just generally take a quiet moment and reflect how blessed you are to have them in your life still. Hold onto them close and enjoy every minute. As corny as it sounds, you never know when it can be your last.
RIP for always, big fella xxxx
Just a few pics...
Didn't want to put his poorly pictures
but I like the photo. His normal breakfasts in bed!
And ones from his previous owner, hope you don't mind x
ETA - I'm not asking for a stream of replies or sympathy or attention posts. Just a post to remember him by for me really and Rushy and everyone else who tended him.
