Spare broodmare

Hi guys! Another breeding post I'm afraid!

We have a spare broodmare this year which we had bought as a recipient mare for Embryo transfer. She is a lovely TB who has won a lot of money and since bred 2 or 3 foals of her own. She would be a fantastic mare to breed an eventer from.

Unfortunately we didn't manage to get our facilities for the ET ready for this season, so she will have to ait till next year for that, so instead she will be just sat in a field.

I suggested to Stud owner that it might be a nice idea to loan her out as a broodmare this season, with the loaner paying the stud fee, basic grass livery, and foaling down cost.

I thought it would be a nice idea for people who cant afford to buy a foal, or have a mare that is too old or is competing!

SO has agreed in principal to this, what do you guys think, is there a market for this?

I think that is a very good idea very different and I guess she would be earning her keep

I was looking for this sort of arrangement last year but was unable to find anyone willing to loan out a mare purely to produce a foal.

Sounds like a wonderful idea!

My mare went for brood loan a few years ago and my friend has just taken another mare on brood loan to put into foal this year.
I have quite a few people ask me if I was intrested in putting my mare back in foal but as I have just got her fit its not going to happen anytime soon.I also have a broodmare of my own which is going in foal for a friend they are paying stud fee and basic livery at mine if all goes to plan.Or if its really nice I might keep it myself

The lady who owns the stud where i keep my horses has just been 'given' a 2 y/o on a 3 yr loan for the filly to grow up, be covered and have a foal.

I lent my mare to someone with a stallion to breed a foal from for a year as she was lame (got kicked, nothing that would breed a bad foal) so that she would have time to fully recover. The deal was he would keep her for the year, have the foal and I would get a free covering from his stallion in the future, however it didn't quite work to plan as she got in foal, 1 week to go her womb unzipped, went to vet school, had a cearsearen, where she died, the foal lived 15 minutes before it died thru lack of oxygen during the procedure.

So I would think about what would happen if the mare were to die.

Why doesn't the owner cover the mare if she is that nice?
