Now I don't mind using a little cheek every now and then, and tonights one of those times....

Anybody got any spare jumps they want to shift??
Current yard is using a mismatch of all sorts... young lass on the yard shows a serious ability to jump, but isn't really gonna progress with cones/barrells/bits of crap!

Small intimate yard, doesn't really warrant spending a fortune on new jump set, so I shall appeal to your better nature, and see if anyone has a few....reasonable price, free, whatever, collection arranged if needed!!!

Personally I want to see her progress....even if nobody else cares!! However ebay seems to be silly people asking silly prices!!

Many thanks peeps, just for taking the time to read it!!

well, i've got a couple of pairs of decent plastic wings with cups which are too lightweight for my windswept arena here, so if someone can collect, they're all yours. pm me for postcode if you want.
jump poles are cheap from local wood merchants etc, that's where i got my first lot fwiw.
jump4joy multi-directional uprights are cheap and brilliant. £70 a pair, last for ever, can't rate them highly enough. surely if everyone on the yard put £30 in or something, you could get a few pairs and some decent poles. fillers are easy to make, or hang rugs etc over poles, or put rugs underneath as 'water trays'.
big blue plastic barrels make good fillers and uprights too.
best of luck!

LOL, thanks for that Kerilli, I may take you up on the offer, slightly outside my area, but I have a colleague who gets down your end!!

Yes they could club together, but there's only one lass who can actually jump, until she teaches me to do it right!!!!

I just think she's being held back, and a few jumps appearing in the night on a friday, well I truly would love to see her face on the saturday morning!!! You see some people do really well at shows etc, and you just know the potential is there for great things... I honestly think this is one of them cases but the others aren't seeing it. I actually feel like going out and just buying her a few sets, to see what happens... I don't like to see those that work really hard being held back, sometimes they just need a small surprise to give em that push.
If it happens...and I truly think it will....I'll then consider paying to get the arena sorted out with a better surface... the YO is also the sole instructor at my place.... however riding with this youngster, I've learnt more than I've ever learnt off any lessons.... feel it's maybe time to return the favour!!

Besides I've had the best weekend in years, riding, relaxing, and just chillin.... I'm in the mood to make someone happy!

Who mentioned hammers!!!....dangerous tool in my hands...once I start I keep going...which is why I don't want to take on this as a project!!

Ideally, I'd like to source the light weight plastic poles if at all possible, remembering I ain't a good jumper myself... I just think they seem safer for the horses!!

Being cheeky with this post I know.... but I'm not specifically after full sets....just the odd spare wing, pole, filler etc. A few bits here and there soon turn into a jump...and another.

the lightweight plastic poles are brilliant, but horses do learn not to respect them... i use them for the baby horses but soon start using the heavier ones once they've got a clue, tbh.
someone on ebay is making lightweight plastic poles that screw together, so can be dismantled and fit in a car. might be a good idea?
oh, plastic drainage pipe makes good lightweight poles too... you can always paint them if dull brown's too boring. can slip wooden poles inside too to make them heavier later.
why not try a local firm for a bit of sponsorship for her? got to be worth a try, you don't get if you don't ask...
best of luck!

Don't they just! Mine know which ones I have weighted - the 4" sectional ones pull apart and you can get a 3" machined pole inside then shove them back together. Never touch a single one. The 'sealed' lightweight ones get punched out all over so only get used as lower poles.

Pony Club (bless them) don't allow lightweight poles as they fall too far and too easily. They like the leg (or back) breaking twenty ton wooden ones. I can't decide which is safer.

i think the medium weight ones are safest. i want the horse to respect them (but not frighten himself... hence using lightweight ones for baby horses), if they kick them out with distain they might get one between their legs, which is horrible, can give an awful fall.

I'm sure you're up to making some uprights?? If I can manage it I'm sure you can??

My uprights cost me about £12 a pair to make and take a few hours.

Get machined poles from a local timber yard between £12 and £20 each depending on length and thickness, and then paint yourself. If you're happy to have hideous colours you can pick up cheap sale paint from the DIY shops.

Now I'm sure you're friend would be well chuffed if you supplied lovingly handmade jumps for her, even if they were a bit wobbly and wonky?? !!
