Hi there, I have a rather old but tough pony with very mild cushings. Does anyone have any pergolide they no longer need as vets prices are ridiculously expensive. Any help much appreciated, is there anywhere else I can get it cheaper than the vets!! Thanks, Dani

Its completely illegal to pass on prescription drugs, and plain stupid too. Look on the internet for a better price but if you can't afford it, I'm afraid you are going to have to make a tough decision.

Jeez DKS! Is this real or a troll??? How do you know your pony has mild Cushings? Presumably you've had the ACTH test done and it's shown a count between 29.7 and about 45? Let's hope so. If so, you will know that Pergolide has been replaced by Prascend, although your vet (a vet is a person qualified to treat animals) may still have supplies of Pergolide. Both Pergolide and Prascend are POMs - you can get POMs on line but you will need a prescription from your vet. At that point you'd need to balance the cost of the prescription with any savings that you might make on the drugs. If you acquire 2nd hand drugs you will have no knowledge of how they were stored, how old they are and possibly not even the strength.

I'm puzzled though: you say the pony's tough and you don't want to pay for proper veterinary care so why bother at all?

Poor pony... Step up and go through the proper channels. There are no cheap workarounds to
Medicating for Cushings.
The majority of us are paying through the nose at best for Pergolide, and at worst Prascend (I'm paying for the latter).
My pony wasn't showing any classics symptoms of Cushings except being more prone to laminitis. Hopefully you've had a blood test done, if not you need to, and then recheck again in 6 weeks if you start medication.
I wish you all the best in finding a sensible way of treating your pony properly

Some horse and ponies have done very well on herbal supplements instead of pergolide. Chaste berry has had good results I have heard. its worth a try. My pony wouldnt eat it so had to use pergolide still.

"vetmedsplus" online has good prices i think. but its expensive no mater where you get it, whereas herbs are not!
Good Luck!
