Does anyone in the Doncaster/Sheffield area have a spare rug for a 14.2 welsh cob.

A friend of ours GF has gone out and got him a really cheap horse cos he said he was THINKING about getting one. But it doesn't have a rug and he can't afford one at the minute, it was out last night naked in a field. he can't afford to pay you now, but if he hasn't paid in 2 months we will give you the money. Or if you have a battered old one going spare that will be so so helpful.

I know how odd this sounds! I don't really know the full story, all I know is I want to get this horse rugged up, cos he said he went to feed it this morning and it looked freezing

Thank you so much x

Blimey this sounds like a nightmare situation! If this chap can't afford to buy a rug can he afford livery, feed, hay etc?

I'm not having a go and I know you said you don't know the full story but how irresponsible is his GF!!!!!

Hope someone comes up trumps with a rug for the ponio!

I don't have any spare rugs of that size but rugs can be picked up really cheaply off ebay. I am sorry but IMO if he can't afford a rug then he shoudn't be buying a horse as how will he afford feed, shoeing, worming, unexpected vet's bills?

Sorry but my initial thought was if he cant afford a rug can he afford to feed it? worm it? shoe it? insure it? etc etc etc the rug is probably the cheapest of the lot!

Everything you are saying I completely agree with!

I am just trying to help the horse at the minute! I am gonna help him as much as I can. But I can't help him out with buying a rug at the minute., the horse isn't on livery at the minute just in a field. We can get a rug later this week hopefully but I didn't want to see it out in the field at the minute in this weather

Couldn't agree more. What a stupid GF. Poor poor pony. It would be impossible to police but this kind of situation really shouldn't be allowed

I dont think a 'battered old rug' that may not fit well and may cause harm and be uncomfortable is the best way to go?

Lots of horses are out 'naked' even if this weather and fine. If the horse is hardy and hairy it would be better without a rug than one that is uncomfortable.

The man doesnt sound like he knows what a 'freezing horse' looks like anyway. Clearly doesnt know what he is doing! Have you asked him how he is gonna feed it and have feet/vacs etc done if he cant afford a rug. I dont think you should be providing for him anyway as he will use your kindness as a way of getting things in the future. I know you are trying to help the horse though...
Maybe he could build some kind of shelter on the cheap out of some old pallets or something instead, and you lend a hand
