Bit of a random one this

Was out hacking last week on a riding school hack and the girl riding behind my horse told me that my horse literally had SPARKS comming off his shoes/hoof.

It was getting dark and we were trotting along quite fast to get back to the yard before it got too dark

Has this happened to anyone else before?

ahh thanks for that - to be honest I was really worried that the sparks would hurt the horses legs (im a newish rider as you can probably tell)

It wouldn't be too much of a problem if the horse went back into his stable would it, ie id hate for the sparks to cause a fire or something in his straw bedding if his feet were still hot?

I know this sounds like a mad question to ask but Im a bit of a worrier when it comes to things like that

Don't worry! My horse has sparks when I trot him up the drive on the way in from the field. The shoes aren't hot or anything so no fire risk :)

he does very slightly drag his back legs sometimes both too - not a lot, but theyre not as 'springey' as his front legs - he's perfectly sound though! and slightly older - would that make it worse?

Two of ours occassionally get sparks in trot, especially my spooky one - she looks like a firework when she skids along the road at high speed!!
Perfectly normal & nothing to worry about - no fire risk either ;)

thanks for all the replies everyone - youve put my mind at rest! now I can concentrate on building the relationship up again with the horse! phew
