Hello

Went to check the ponies tonight and they have a line of electric temporary fencing across their field charged with a Shepherd's fencing unit/battery. The clip had come off of the electric fencing and was just clicking on the ground. I connected it back up but saw that the rabbits had had a nibble at the earth wire of the fencer and there were sparks coming off the earth clip connected to the metal post in the ground

I have no idea if this is normal/safe as haven't noticed it before ? I have turned the fencing off for tonight and would appreciate any advice.

It was shorting out then??. You need to either replace the cable or trim it back to the damaged bit and reattach the clip or maybe just insulation tape wrapped round the damaged bit may work. It depends how damaged the inner wire is.
Usually the wires are easily replacable, just attached by ring terminals.
