Generally afterwards if she doesn't have dissolvable sutures she will need to back 7-14days post op to have sutures removed. She'll need to be kept from jumping up etc for this time although walks on the lead are fine. She'll probably come home with NSAID's for 3-4days (probably metacam or rimadyl).
On the day of the op after you've picked her she'll probably want to go home and sleep and maybe a bit quiter than normal for a few days.
Buster collars are good if she wants to lick her wound (they do get use to them) or and old T-Shirt. If she tries scratching with her back feet socks on these is very useful.
Hope it all goes well. x
thanks for that. she is a lively border collie so keeping her still will be fun. it is just unbearable i have a 16yo yorkie poo boy dog who howls all night and does the actions around the house when she is in season
I had 3 of my bitches spayed a month or so ago. One of mine is a lively springer spaniel X collie, another is a shepherd and the third one is large livestock guardian dog. All of them were absolutely fine, although the vet muffed up with the livestock dog, however she recovered with no problems.
I brought all of mine home in the afternoon of the morning surgery. The dogs were all given a shot of painkillers each, which lasted around 48 hours. All of them were quiet when they came home and we left them alone, apart from the odd gentle pat and kind word. The following morning they were all back to normal.
I didn't have a collar for any of them as they are outside dogs and they could have been dangerous. None of my bitches touched their stitches though, and they all had dissolving stitches.
I have the young puppy to take to be done at some point in the next few months and I'm sure she will be just as fine as my other girls were.
