Yes, I know they don't really go together but heck, it saves me making two posts

Those who got their bitches spayed before their first season, what age were they and what age did your vet recommend?

And those with breeds of dogs who require clipping, what age were they were they got their first clip done?

You getting a new doggy???

And I can't for the life of me think how young some of the dogs were that used to come in to were I worked, I didn't want their lifestories, I was just the hairdresser

6 months for bitch, thats what our vets do, to spay b4 a season, as the norm for a first season is around the 9 month mark, of course, there will be acceptions, whenever I get them in young enough to do around the 6 month mark, I do them then.

and the second, as a groom, I do the more hairy breeds at around 12-16 weeks, i.e shih-tzu's. Lhasa's, anything that resembles a mini shag pile, and they cannot see for hair

and maybe the 6 month mark for non shaggy, but I do get them in to bath and basically get them used to being brushed e,t,c anywhere from the 12 weeks mark.
It depends on the breed really.

I think scruffy had his first trip to the "barbour" at 5 months, he didn't get a proper clip then (just nasty bits shaved off and a little trim)
He had the first "breed" cut at 9 months, it would have been earlier but circumstances didn't allow!

Our vet reccomends 6 months for both dogs and bitches for spaying/neutering.

I hope you wont mind me being frivolous

But if you get a rescue greyhound they will already be spayed and wont need clipping ever

Not yet anyways! (And don't worry Acolyte, I am hoping it will be a greyhound

)

As for the questions, someone was asking what age Beastie was when she first got clipped and wondered about others, as they have just bought a mini schnauz.

Spaying question was that their vet (who I don't like

) has said they will spay said pup which is now 13 weeks within the next couple of weeks. Just seems very young to me?
