I will obviously talk to my vet about this, but just wanted a bit of a heads up....

I am getting ready to have my bitch spayed, but want to time it so that I have time off work so that it is easier to monitor her. At the moment she spends her days at the yard with my other dog while I am at work, I drop her off in the morning and the YO drops her home at night - wonderful arrangement, all for the price of chocolate!!

Anyway, I would like to be able to keep her at home after spaying until she is up to the greater excitement of the yard, playing with other dogs etc.

So, my question is what is the approximate recovery time post spaying? I am aware that it is a fairly major op, she is used to being crated but she is a terrier and a bit of a live wire! I don't particularly want to have it done at Christmas would would be ideal as work closes down, as I will be visiting family and she doesn't travel particularly well and don't want to give her additional stress.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks!

Well I've just had 2 of mine done today - and I'm still not really sure!

Buffy and Star are both Hyper so I'm not sure we'll be able to keep them calm for long!

I reckon I'll potter round with Star on the lead for a few days and then let her get on with it. Someone please tell me if this is wrong!!!

I guess you just have to keep an eye on the stitches more than anything else?

Sorry - not much help!

well i was totally overprotective mum getting my 2 done at the same time and it was sooooo easy. when i got them home i spent all night with them as they were woozy from the anaesthetic and feeling sorry for themselves but what a difference i noticed in the morning! i didnt walk them at all for 10 days (you are allowed limited on lead exercise but having hyper staffs i decided best just to let them out in the garden for pee etc

got stitches checked at 3 days and 10 days then started walking them normally again

you will honestly be surprised at how quickly they bounce back

really just watch out that they dont jump up on furniture etc little strenuous exercise, keep them away from licking their wound (buster collar if need be) and look out for any infection

they will be fine dont worry
