There are loads of posts about Blacksmiths letting you down, I know i'm really lucky. My blacksmith has never, over 17years, let us down. He makes his own shoes, Does a good job on every visit. The horses love him. He has come out to refit any pulled shoes at very short notice, and even came out on Christmas eve.(got a good bottle of Whiskey!!)
We always feed him Chocolate cake and lots of Tea

Anymore out there like him??

Yep, mine does what he says on the tin too. Turns up on time, does a good job and calls if something has happened and he has to cancel. Which I think has been once or twice in the last 5 years.

He always says he doesn't do difficult horses or owners! Although Osc isn't easy so I think he means the dangerous ones. And as for owners, I can't believe that people can be so inconsiderate, a good farrier is so important, you have to look after them!

Yep ours.
Always turns up, on time.

Returns calls.
Does a superb job. Refits any lost shoe (rare) foc and quickly.
Tea and biscuits are always provided for him.

In general support of blacksmiths. It's hard work, and can be dangerous.

I have a great deal of respect for the ones who work on through bad weather and good, with owners who may be having a bad day, and horses that may not be properly trained, taking time to talk and share their knowledge.

If a person had a doctor's appointment which was delayed an hour or two because of someone else's emergency, I'm sure they wouldn't complain. If the emergency case was their own family, even less.

So when a farrier is delayed because he is taking time over some horse's unexpected problems, I always think 'Next time it could be my horse that needs an extra hour.'

My farrier is wonderful - fantastic with the horses, always cheerful, has never let me down, does a fantastic job and he does my too heavies without complaining

in a word - perfect!

My farrier is fab, is almost early slightly early and incredibly reliable, is the source of the most fantastic gossip and a right laugh. He is rather slow so winter shoeing can be a tad cold but he is very skilled, very careful and I am just glad he is going to shoe my baby eventually.

I cant recommend mine enough - I use Joel Roberts in Bristol and have done since he set up on his own. I have recommended him to loads of people as he is always on time, courteous but still has a laugh, is patient with the horses and a damn good farrier to boot, but he is now so popular he is having to turn down work but will still try to fit you in if your horse throws a shoe or has a problem with no notice.

Mine is brilliant. Reliable, excellent at his job, and has become a good friend over the years. I look forward to his visits as we always have a fantastic chat about various random things. I'm lucky to have him.

My farrier is in fact a living legend! He has shod my horses for the last 18 years and I can't fault him. He genuinely cares about my horses and their well being, he's not always on time but he's never just not shown. He is hilarious and has me in stitches but at the same time we can have a good old serious natter too! So Big ups to Pete, I salute you!!!!!

Mine is fab too, turns up on time, never lets me down, pops out to put a shoe back on if required at short notice. Called him yesterday to say I had a loose shoe, and he came out this morning to sort it

Mine is brilliant, turns up on time, does a good job, kind to the horses, will get them in or turn out again if I am on the school run - I know how lucky I am, so keep him well supplied with coffee and biscuits.

I know, unfortunately could'nt wait for him this am, had to leave May in for him to sort! His lovely grey horse is out of the same dad as May - shame May did'nt turn out a bit more like him!

Mine is fantastic too - first time he has ever let me down was this morning - he did have a good excuse tho, his girlfriend had gone into labour! but he called me 1st thing this morning to tell me.

And he manages to keep one of my horses sound where even the vets farriers have failed and to top it all off he is a really nice bloke and v. good looking - what more could you want!!!

Now, how to get rid of the girlfriend.....

Mine is the BEST - absolutely fantastic. Has never let us down, we have never lost a shoe, he will come out quickly, great with the animals, never late...I could go on and on. His name is Mick Screaton.

Thank you Mick
