Hi, I'm unsure whether I should be feeding my gelding speedibeat or not. I'm not sure what it's purposes are and the benefits are. He's a 17hh dutch warmblood who is 7. I use him for bd competitions once a month and he's workload is medium approx 6 days a week. Should I feed it him or not?

It really depends on the rest of his diet, what do you currently feed him, how is he doing on it, are you looking to give him a change of diet or just a top up.

He's currently not on anything other than grass and hay but I'm thinking of feeding him topspec comprehensive feed balancer, topspec cool condition cubes and spillers condition fibre when I do start feeding him in a few weeks.
He currently is a bit lazy but very excitable and can spook and knap so don't want to fizz him up too much. This would be a whole new diet for him. Thanks

If he can be a bit sharp yet lazy you want to be giving him a fibre based diet, he can get plenty of energy from fibre alone with possibly some oil to provide a bit more if required.
Introduce the feed gradually, I would start with just a form of fibre, Fast Fibre is an excellent base, it is low in sugar and starch so non heating or speedibeet again low in S&S, with a balancer you will provide all he needs with this and not too much risk of him getting silly on it.

If you find he drops weight or requires more energy adding oil, either liquid or micronised linseed would be the ideal next step, if you still need more then add the conditioning cubes, that way by doing one step at a time over a month or two you only feed what you really need to.

All of mine have a base of FF, fed with extras added as required, it is economical and easy to adjust to suit the individual and the time of year, in winter they get more, summer just a token unless in hard work.

That's really helpful thank you both. Can I just clarify that I should possibly just feed him the balancer and the conditioning fibre without the cool condition cubes and speedibeat? or the balancer, conditioning fibre and speedibeat? Sorry to be a pain

Start with the balancer with the fibre or speedibeet then add the rest as you need to, you may find an immediate improvement by just giving him the balancer and fibre.
Just one more thing to note when you feed, the recommended daily allowance is often very high be aware of this, the balancer will make up for any shortfall in vits and mins. If they are getting plenty of forage they usually do not need the full amount of hard feed.
Also your horse is in light work not medium, if you are just doing BD he is unlikely to be in the medium range this tends to be horses competing fairly hard at medium levels, BE novice, BD med or higher. Hard work is racing, advanced level eventing etc.

Trident do an unmollassed version of their pellets at the same price as the standard mollassed version. Excellent if quick soaking isn't needed.
