I bought a bag of this in September to feed my boy over the winter but ended up using very little of it (he took colic and was only fed a small amount anyway)

I have loads left but I'm not feeding it now as he's a very good doer so is only on a balancer and hifi light now.

Would it keep to next winter if needed or should I just chuck it or give it to one of the other liveries who'll use it - I've got almost a full feed bins worth.

I'd chuck it if you definitely won't use any more this winter. Even if it is still edible there is no way of knowing what its feed value will be after having it that long, and if he has coliked (sp) before then I'd want to be very careful!

I've kept an opened bag between winters before now and it was perfectly fine to feed after a summer of beng opened, albeit kept in a bin... that said if you're unsure, why not give it away now to someone who can make use of it.

I asked the feed merchant the same question, and he said it would be ok because the Speedibeet you are using now, was probably made from the previous years beet crop. I've used it up, and pony has kept her condition no problem so the calorific value can't have dropped that much over time.

As long as it's in a tightly closed container and rodents etc can't get at it, I'd have thought it would be fine. However, if you think you're never going to use it again, as CBFan says, why not just donate it to a friend?
