Speedibeet & Laminitics?

Just wondered if any of you could help - we have a little old shetland (she's probably 30 ish!) who is prone to laminitis and who's teeth aren't what they were!
She's in need of a bit of weight (she doesn't look poor but if you feel her she's all hair!) so I've been giving her speedibeet & hifi lite twice a day. She is on quite a bare paddock but does get hay in a morning and a haynet overnight.
Can you tell me how much I can feed of the speedibeet without the risk of her lami flaring up and/or if you can suggest some other feed stuff that might be good for her?

Other feeds approved by the Laminitis Trust are Dengie Alfa Beet and Spiller's High Fibre Cubes and Happy Hoof. The Alfa Beet could be a good choice as it is lami safe, but still reasonably conditioning and as it has to be soaked is good for veterans who often have dodgy teeth. If you ring or email the manufacturer's helpline and give weight of pony they will tell you how much is safe to feed.
 
Yes, speedibeet is excellent for lami ponies. One of mine, a shetland is very prone to lami. She no longer gets any grass at all - she's in at night and out in the hardcored yard during the day with hay at all times and 2 feeds a day of Speedibeet, Simple Systems Linseed and a high spec vit & min supplement.

Id watch alfalfa based products though, I thought they were safe for lami ponies but mine went sore on it not long ago.
 
Don't know about speedibeet but alfa beet is approved by the laminitis trust and is a good conditioning feed. Like TGM said you can soak it to be as wet or dry as you want, even to soup-like consistency if her teeth aren't too good.
 
Magic_magpie - I agree with you on the caution with alfalfa & laminitics. My laminitic mare gets quite footy on the stuff. I now feed her on just unmolassed beet with a vit/min supplement and hay.
 
Thanks everyone! I think I may give the alfalfa a miss for now and see how we go but it's certainly something to bear in mind
 
I have my laminitic pony on Alpha A Light and she does fine on it - no footiness at all. In fact my blacksmith said her hoof quality has really improved since she has been on it.
 
i would also increase her hay.saok it if you are worried about it being abit rich.
a nice safe feed for laminitics is also something oil based.
alfa beet or fibre cubes with some oil added is really good and easy for an oldie to eat
my lamanitic old girl was on hifi lite,oil,adlib hay(chopped short)fibre cubes and baileys outshine or ultimate finish.she was 49 when she was PTS last year and looked really well.
