Spelling mistakes

LOL! yes, bad grammar is worse than bad spelling
smile.gif

Someone once accused me of 'definition' of character, which made me laugh (and was actually quite accurate!!)

I'd recommend "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss to all fellow spelling pedants! It's great for info but also side splittingly funny on all the wrong stuff you see around you! {{frantically checks spelling 14,000 times before pressing "send"}}

Congratulations guys u have totally just taken the p out of dyslexic people that write on here, and people like _ranger_ who feel like they cant write on here incase they get spelling wrong and punctuation.
I am sorry if i have got peoples backs up by saying this but i just think is it really that important on here, as someone has said its not as if we are filling in a job application.

Bollox! There are plenty of dyslexic people on the forum who cope perfectly well. Also, plenty of our gripes are about grammar and not just spelling. Grammar remains unaffected by dyslexia.
The fact remains that poor punctuation and spelling DO affect how a phrase or paragraph is interpreted and a lot of people just can't be arsed to try a bit harder which is just bad manners. And even though poor spelling and grammar get RIGHT up my nose, I've never ONCE had a go at anyone on the forum for it so don't go suggesting I'm taking the p:ss out of dyslexics.

i am only giving my point of view thats what this forum is for isnt it.
I think it is quite sad that people dont like posting on here for spelling and punctuation reasons.

As I said, there are plenty of dyslexic people on the forum who have no qualms about posting and you probably wouldn't even imagine they were dyslexic.
I AM anal about grammar and spelling. I don't see how hard it is to capitalise, pop in a few commas, full stops, apostrophes and question marks, but I also manage to exercise tolerance.

And I believe you did:

"Congratulations guys u have totally just taken the p out of dyslexic people that write on here"

I posted earlier in the thread and that statement therefore includes me.

I am cr*p at Grammar and spelling and I am dyslexic. I always try and do my best when I post but to be honest I think there is more to life than worrying about getting things wrong on a post.

If people dont like it I dont really care, its not like it is hurting anyone!

*puts popcorn packet in the bin*

Well folks much as I have enjoyed the shenanigans (sp?) tonight my bed is calling me in capital letters

Good night all

I had planned to answer this but its taken me 20 mines to type it on word so I can spell check it. I am just making dyslexic sound crap. So binned it.
Its a confidence thing as well with me. The fear of being picked up on my spelling really bothers me. I know it shouldn't but at 43 years of age you will not change me. But a spell check could, please help.
I've got a new laptop window visa, I have got spell check on other forums and have firefox but it doesn’t work for me on this site. I have to be doing something wrong but i don't no what.
Even this took 10 mins.lol I NEED A SPELL CHECK PLEASE

big_bud - we do not have a problem with people who make mistakes because they do not know any better. We appreciate that spelling and grammar are issues that some people may struggle with, and recognise that people make occasional typos. What we dispute is people who are simply too lazy to write their posts out properly, to make them legible. Peoplw who write in text, for instance. Now I know some people have said we should be less lazy and try to understand them, but the truth is, if you post on this forum it is becaue you recognise that you have something to add. You should, therefore, do yourself a favour by writing it in a way that everyone will understand, so your point is put across clearly and for everyone to read. This wasn't meant to be an arguement. I appreciate your point of view, and hope you can see mine!

My absolute favourite, was a male poster pontificating about why people are unfaithful who pronounced 'Men aren't meant to be magnanimous' or words to that effect.
Classic.

X_Ranger_X, please don't worry about it! You are obviously making the effort, and your posts are easy to understand, unlike some of the "stream of consciousness with no punctuation" ones, which are the ones that really rile a lot of people! Anyway, content is the most important thing.
if you're that worried about it, put a teensy excuse in your siggy!

Excuse me! I am dyslexic (I had extra time in my 11+, GSCE's and A-levels) yet I manage to spell correctly.

I take time when I post, I ensure that what I am writing makes sense and is coherent (this is often why my posts are about 6 miles behind the poster I want to comment on!).

I often check my spelling on Dictionary.com if I am unsure and I do the same at work.

I think it is because of this reason that I am so particular about spelling & grammar. I don't get it right all the time, but I make a serious effort to do so. I read more and I work at my dyslexia.

dys·lex·i·a [dis-lek-see-uh] –noun Pathology.
any of various reading disorders associated with impairment of the ability to interpret spatial relationships or to integrate auditory and visual information.

So there.

It's my lack of being able to spell, that is stopping me from posting.
I can't see a spell check button. Is there one?
It's no fun being dyslexic.(probably spelt wrong)
I wish I could write in paragraph and get the spelling and grammar right.

i amongst others make spelling and grammar mistakes and nobody has pulled me up about it.
tho i'm surprised going by this post. as i'm sure i get mixed up a lot with their, they're etc. i can't even get 'know' and 'now' right
frown.gif

anyway just make sure you put in paragraphs, even if they're in the wrong places
tongue.gif

and i'm to lazy (nearly put 'too' in there) (or should it be 'too'?) (ahhh i'm confusing myself!) to put in any capital letters anywhere, and no one has moaned....yet
tongue.gif

or maybe it's just cause i don't post much that no one notices me anyway and all my mistakes?

Mine does. Anything spelt incorrectly gets a red line underneath it, in the same way as it does on Office's word program.

Right click on underlined words and it shows you a list of suggested corrections.

Thank god for you Minkymoo!! Someone who suffers with Dyslexia who doesn't see it as an excuse to not bother!! You are a refreshing exception to what seem to be a sad and lazy norm.

For all the rest of you that suffer with this condition, take note.

i do try but i can't spell check when i'm spelling right, just getting words wrong. the spell check is great if your dyslexia involves not being able to spell correctly.
but what if you just can't figure out the right word to put in?
your and you're being an example

Definitely - why do people always want to spell it with an 'a'?

There's someone on here who always spells it 'defiantly'
