Here are madam's feet after being shod yesterday in Pads and Magic Cushion. She has had 2 shoeings of Equipak and now onto this, which will most probably (if she approves) will be the long term method for her. We are encouraging growth whilst cushioning for her currently sensitive feet :D

Thought would be interesting, the side view looks a bit rough as she pulled a shoe and some of her foot about 10weeks ago, so it's just growing out :)

There wasn't a post, it's just following on from Topaz Tiger's post on pads :D

She basically has flat feet, and my excellent farrier hadn't managed to get any heel to grow using "normal" shoes of various types. Therefore after Xrays, we had the choice of Eggbars or pads. We weren't keen to use eggbars unless we had tried everything to get the heel to grow, so decided to try pads first. :D Her feet are changing shape, sofingers crossed it is helping!

Interesting, thanks for posting photos. I was going to ask about her heels... so the purpose of the pads is to try and bring her heels back? How does that work (if you don't mind me being nosey! :))?

Shes never had amazing heels anyway, and theyre not contracted, just dont grow as quickly as ideal! The pads act to create constant stimulation to the foot and therefore encourage level growth over the foot :-)

My horse had terrible feet and in the end he seriously damaged his ddft and he had some of these on whilst we were trying to fix his feet. The only thing that did fix them were bar shoes though, he had these pads on underneath.

Why are you trying to avoid bar shoes? My vet wanted me to put wedges on and my farrier wasn't having any of it! Very tricky situation!!

Vickijay, we want to avoid bars as they will treat the flatness, but won't necessarily improve the foot, which the pads are doing. Because it has been caught v.quickly, we want to try and heal the prob, not just manage it...

Sorry cant edit! If these don't work, we'll be doing further investigation work anyway which could result in bar shoes, but we're making changes bit by bit.

Oh I see. I think for us it was more important to get him some heels as he had already had a career ending injury and he needed as much support as poss. His feet were also really bad! The bar shoes were amazing though, he only had them on for about 6 months and it brought his heels up and stood the whole foot more up, instead of being splayed (iykwim)

I trusted my farrier when he said little could be done for his feet, big mistake. New remedial farrier transformed his feet in 18 months. If only I had swapped before :(

At least it sounds like you have a good one
