So had a long wait today to find out results from vets today, they called at 5.30pm! I was really worrying at this point!

Anyway she was nerve blocked today on the hinds and had x-rays. Basically damage is showing as being in the suspensorys as we thought, and both of them.

Vet away tomorrow so she is staying there and having scans on Thursday to see the full extent of the damage, vet doesnt think there will be massive damage as she is hardly lame only a 1/4 (out of 1) out of 10.

I asked what the treatment would be like shockwave etc and he said no they would operate, so she will stay up there now and have the operation hopefully.

But still need fingers crossed for Thursday that there snt that much damage.

Vet said he wishes I could have seen her today after the nerve blocks as the improvement was massive in her work, feel so guilty now but at least we know now and can treat it, she is obviously a very willing mare to keep working, jumping (and improving her jumping) in pain.

So will update when I know more about damage and whether there will be an op

In the meantime if anyone has any experience of the op would be grateful to hear......

I have not had any experience with the operation, but as you probably know i am dealing with a suspensory ligament injury at the moment... did the vet say whether it was at the root or nearer the fetlock?

Make sure you ask to see the scans. It made it so much more clear in my mind once I had seen them

Feel free to PM me if you want a chat or just a moan to someone who is going through something similar

I think that sounds like really positive news HJ. Sounds like Hopefully she will be all fixed after the op and will never look back? I think that its the same op that a horse in my yard had 5 months ago, he is superb now.
Cant wait to see the brand new Spider out eventing. Will be fantastic to see how she can go now! Probably she has only been working to a fraction of her full potential all along?

I know on one hind its nearer the fetlock - does this make much of a difference?!?

Yes you are right she has probably been working at a fraction of her full potential, so like you cant wait to get it all sorted and see how she goes, even if she only dress & SJ's though I will be chuffed! I mean she was getting placed in Nov tests and doing well BSJA so imagine what she will be like after

I meant last summer, Doh!

In a way I wish Grace had had the operation done... basically, if the inflammation has not gone down by the time of the final scan then she will have to have it anyway

So that will be more box rest

A friend of mine has a horse who was diagnosed with suspensory ligament damage back in the summer, the vets said that he would be out of action all winter but wanted to try hydrotherapy with him. He stayed at the vets and had several intense sessions and now he is back to being ridden. He didn't have the operation but the Hydrotherapy turned an 8 month healing period into 3 with really good results.

I think this was all covered by the insurance as well.

The horse no longer competes due to DJD but the hydrotherapy worked wonders.

As was said for Becki, I would go down the Hydro route aswell if at all possible, the people I brought G from had their own facility and swore by it, I have also known good results on lesser injuries too
