I knew this was the biggest thing he's done so far and as a showcase for some of the biggest studs in the country and with a catalogue reading like a who's who of the dressage breeding world, my only hopes were that my boy behaved himself.
Well, I needn't have worried, he DID behave himself. Even when a huge 2yr old colt got away from his handler then who happened to be first in line when he went on the attack........yup, us!
Damn thing was trying to attack poor Spider, I was trying to get it off, not get knocked over or kicked and help Spider at the same time. Pretty scary I can tell you! Spider eventually double barrelled it in the ribs and it went after someone else, who got knocked under her colt, lost it and then we had TWO colts on the loose!
By this time Spider and I had legged it out of the arena but as they are not fenced there was no real hiding place. Luckilly both colts were caught quickly after that, but people were coming up to my mum afterwards and saying what a fab temperament Spider has to be so polite. To be honest, I think he was too shocked to do anything much!
Anyway we did the class and he was a good boy once we'd all calmed down from the attack and apart from getting a horse fly just as we were about to trot up he went well enough.
Seemed like hours of hanging around whilst everyone did their triangle then came the walk round together.......fifteen of us, ten of which were colts inc. naughty one.
They were only presenting rosettes to 4th, (
) and I was fully expecting to be an also ran but can you imagine my suprise and absolute delight when our number was called in 3rd?!
For all I cared we could have won the Championship of the whole show!!!
Sorry for the puke inducing, self indulgent post but it honestly was unexpected when there were colts by such illustrious sires as Dimaggio, Pro Set, Woodlander Del Amitri, Fuerstenrich, Donnersong, oh, I can't remember what else without the catalogue!
'Fraid this is the best photo mum could come up with but I will post the link to the pro ones when they are online, one or two of which were really nice.
