Spiders - please be careful

We have the regular false widow spiders all over the place here but a recent flux in a new invader, the Noble False Widow. Bigger and pack a bigger punch.

The regular ones are relatively ok and won't bite unless really provoked, but the Noble false widows are bigger and have put people in hospital over here.

I spotted one the other day, they are quite large and quite horrible looking! YUCK! and I don't mind spiders!

Glad Cobus is on the mend and hopefully won't get bitten again, what a horrible experience.

Not caused by a spider however last year I was bitten by some sort of flying bug on my legs. The bites caused a huge amount of swelling and them I accidentally bumped a chair with my leg near the site of the bite. I didn't notice at the time and sat down on a chair. About half an hour later I moved and thought, 'Ohh that is sticky' and there was a pool of blood on the floor and it looked like my leg had been sliced open and the skin had disintegrated. The bugs were black and round about the size of a pin head with a hard carapace like a beetle. They lived in grass and I don't think they can fly very well because they generally only 'bit' legs up to about 50cm off the ground. The horses used to come in with blood dripping from their legs as well. I have now moved yards and I haven't seen any this year and I haven't missed them.
