I'm very phobic of spiders and I really dread this time of year, I have to get the rug out and it's always covered!
Today was the day to get the rug and it had 10+ spiders on..BIG ONES! I danced around and made squealy noises and finally got my mum to help :P
I've never ever been so scared of rugging up a horse! Ned, the sweetheart, who usually makes grumpy faces and shuffles around to make it hard for me, stood still like a little angel!

My skin is still crawling ¬¬

Anyone else have this problem and are the any ways to solve it?

i hate spiders :S i grabbed a rug i needed the other day by the belly strap and layed it flat on the yard for an hour then brushed it off then turned it over holding the belly strap again and turned it over to make sure they were all gone haha did get a few funny looks but im terrified of spiders next year im getting some of those vacuum bags so i can clean them dry them off then put them away - doubtful a spider can live in there now mwhahaha :)

I don't like spiders either despite being male, I remember once years ago I was collecting 10 rugs to be washed at Deen City Farm and some large ones were lurking in the rugs. I managed to expel most of them but one or two were seen scuttling off in the back of my Jeep.I then had the thought of these monsters walking around my Jeep on the way home, luckily I didn't see them and never found them.
Another time I was laying in bed drifting off and I felt something run along my arm, I exploded out of my bed in vertical take off and landed in a heap by my door.1 hour later after much searching I decided it was just the wind coming in from the window blowing the hairs on my arm, WRONG 2 nights later it appeared, so big as it ran it made a noise it looked like this and had been in my bed for 2 nights walking all over me!
All you can do is look before you touch anything really,I have a electronic plug in spider deterrent that seems to work most of the time.

According to many, who post on here in answer to those having loading issues. The best way for you to overcome your fear, is to have a bunch of people either drag you with ropes towards the spiders, offer you dinner sitting with the spiders or just beat you with a whip until your fear of spiders subsides.

Sarcasm aside; you have my sympathy, I used to be acutely arachnophobic. If it's any comfort, I have become less bothered as I have got older. By the sounds of your reaction, you will not be frightened in the least bit, by around the time of your 400th birthday.

I too am a big scaredy of spiders, but i just cant bring myself to *squish* one anymore. I find them quite fascinating though and quite like looking at them, as long as they dont touch me, cause then i will run and scream like a loon.

Brilliant !

Now you know the spiders won't hurt you, so stop spooking.

:D

And don't they just seek you out!? I had a giant follow me UP THE STAIRS once!

you're not alone!!! i'm a complete wuss when it comes to spiders, absolutely hate them. the rugs that are in use are always hung up the other side of the stables and it terrifies me to take them down incase they fall on me. hate hate hate!
i've bought 3 giant clear boxes with lids from ikea for the others so that i know i won't discover any beasties when i go to get them out.

I keep my rugs in Bentley rug bags - no spiders in there. I am terrified of them and make my OH check my coats in the tack room before I put them on!
I was have a tack room tidy up last week and there was a large spider on a rug bag, I threw the bag outside and tried to kick the spider off, it wouldn't move and was having a go at my welly!

I have a pet spider who lives in my lorry behind the visor. I take him out and put him in a little box when the lorry has to go for test or service, just so he's safe :o I don't know how long spiders are meant to last but he's been going a long time :D

I'd like a tarantula but OH won't let me :(

Me too in my Landy. Once had one that lasted nearly a year, including through snow and ice. The only time it bothers me is when he swings down into my face when I'm not expecting it!

I used to fling the rugs as fast as possible on to the floor and usually run away after doing so... not willing to wait to see if there was a black beasty on it or not lol... then I discovered bags! Although they migth fascinate me too I cannot deal with them at all, in the slightest, tiniest bit  My family have come to know my tone of voice when I find a spider, "Daddyyyyyyyyyy" (Yes I am 23 and still cannot deal with them lol) :o
OMG even this is making my skin crawl... think I might be putting in an order for a container load of those plug in deterrents ha.

Ahhh yes, there is a 23 years old in my house that reacts in a similar way. There is a high frequency shriek of DAAAAAAADDD, then the gabble of 'safknspider..safknspider...heeeelp!"

I don't mind the high pitched squeeking, but it certainly embarrasses his girlfriend, every time he does it :D

Hehe! I have to call for my mum XD My dad will get them in his hand and chase me!! ¬¬ ******

How silly of me, it didn't even occour to me to put it back in it's bag! I've had it a year now and haven't taken the bag out of my mums car :P

I am terrified of spiders, but I don't hate them. My mum accidently stepped on one and we both shrieked "OH NO!" D: We both felt really bad.

I am very very phobic. We keep or rugs in sealed trunks but the b******* still get in there. I have one really old stable rug, its a rhino one that is a haven for them. I dont know why but it is the rugs that all the big boys hang out. Also we have a pile of fence posts in the feed shed which is riddled with mahoosive ones. I cannot stand them. I also have a really weird thing where if someone touches a spider they have to wash their hands afterwards ( I don't know why, but I also cant touch stuff that spiders have been on for a while.)

Why would anyone want a pet spider?? They are not cuddly and they appear to have absolutly no character. They freaking eat their men after taking their baby gravey. That is just weird. Eurgh I have the seriosue heebie jeebies now. I wish they never existed. and before you say ooh they kill flies, I can do without them too, so just wipe out that food chain have more worms please instead.

Thank you

best mental picture ever! haha i would do the same i think...that's one huge beastie of a spider!

same. :D

personally, i always shake rugs, jump back and shake them again just so i am satisfied. if i see one i go EEEE and run and jump a bit. once that is out of my system i can quite happily go about my business so long as i know where it is at ALL TIMES.

Oh I hate them and I dread this time of year, every little thing that touches me sends me into a flap, even though it's probably just a hair or bit of fluff.

When it's time to get the winter rugs out I always get OH or my mum to do the honours and give them a good brushing off while I watch from a safe distance.

My son who is 23 is a complete phobic. I have come home before to him camping out in the front room because of a spider in his room. I searched high and low and couldnt find the thing so vacummed his room (it needed doing anyway) and told him it was then safe to go back :)

On a different note - would they bite a horse? Tell you why - on Saturday my farrier arrived whilst I still riding so quickly untacked and handed him over - went off to fetch his fleece and threw it over him - about 2 mins later - he visibly dipped and jumped to one side and a huge spider fell off the rug - couldnt find a bite mark but did take rug off and re-check. SO either he is a phobic or the spider bit him? :)

Dont want to scare anyone but apparently 'experts' have said the spiders this year are going to be the biggest we've ever seen cause of the weather etc, and there is going to be alot more too.
