Well Toto is a bit of a fatty at the moment, as he's a very good do-er in the summer but not a very good do-er in the winter. At the moment he's not having any feed other than hay, grass and carrots but last winter he had Hi-Fi Lite with a vit & mineral supplement, a mahoosive net of haylage at night and grass during the day. However this year I thought of maybe giving him a bit of different feed to go with his chaff as a replacement of the vit/min supplement, such as Spillers Cool Concentrate, which on the website says that it contains all the vits/mins that he will need

He can be a bit lazy/steady in the summer, but in the winter he can be a bit daft and sharp when he's been clipped which will be in November. So we don't want anything that will make him fizzy or that is heating! We need something that will help to keep him in good weight and that will provide his nutrients. Normal pasture mix sends him loopy, does Spillers Cool Concentrate do what it claims? Or did it make your horse fizzy? Or can you recommend anything else we could feed?

Ok, so if he's fat just now then I wouldn't be adding much in the way of hard feed to make it worse......

How about baileys lo cal balancer along with this chaff? Or personally, I'd just stick to his vit/min supplement. Remember that the cool concentrate will only give him all his vits / mins if its fed at the recommended rate - and if you're worried about making him sharp then I'd avoid it.

scotmare - he won't be getting fed now, why would I feed a tubby horse a mix?

He would be fed hard feed IF and WHEN he lost weight, last year the haylage and chaff were enough.
We were thinking about Baileys Lo-Cal but if he needs weight on then he'll need high calorie intake... it'd be ok for the summer though

Was wondering about it making him sharp but the company claims that it shouldn't, hence the name cool concentrate

Think we will stick to the chaff/vit min supplement, and then add something in if it's not quite enough

I fed it to my 2 yr old over winter last year with a teeny bit of chaff.Bear in mind obviously not in work, but stabled most of the time due to horrendously muddy fields, he stayed sane.
We had turn out in the school so he could let off steam if he wanted to which was maybe 1 day if he could be bothered to !I found it to be very good, condition etc improved and gave him all the vits and minerals he needed.
I thought it very cost effective to
