Hi there,

i was just wandering if anyone feeds Spillers G&W and/or Spillers happy hoof?

Whats the feed like, is it a mix? Chaff? A pellet?

Thanks in advance

I have had 2 broodmares on grow & win, it is little pellets, my yearling had her own feed of it from 3 months & is still on in it now, this year's foal will be on it too.

Its has relatively low sugar & starch, very low compared to stud mix which suits me as my broodies both developed lami when in foal.

Yearling looks well on it, not fat (you can just see her ribs which I would prefer in youngster than fat!) But is healthy shiny & growing steadily :)

I like it a lot, works well for me :D

Hi,

I've used Spillers G & W from when one of mine was 6 months until he was 3- it is a balancer and looks the same as most balancers i.e little pellets. I fed it with the Happy Hoof Chaff as well and it suited my cob perfectly as didn't over bulk him and he looked fab on it. (He's now on the Lite balancer)

Elle- do you just feed it on its own or along side the hoof feed? :-)

I actually feed it with a little bit of Fast Fibre (Allen & Page) to 'stick' it together, was feeding mine in the feild last year and yearling likes to paw so it was getting spilt in the mud, the FF just makes it more likely to stay in the bowl ;) :D

Also FF is a very good palitable food and helps bulk out the feed without adding lots of calories :)

I dont use the spillers, but I do use Bailies stud balancer, and my horses look fantastic on it. I adjust the feed to what they need in other ways, but find that gives them everything to work from. And they shine in mid winter, and the vets have asked me what i use....... I base it with either alfa a oil, or grazeon grass, and add a few straights for weight etc as they need it.
