I've recently started feeding this instead of fast fibre.

It says it's a 60 second soak but it's taking much longer than that. Is it a batch issue possibly? Is anyone else having this issue?

The pellets are so small compared to fast fibre, looks more like a balancer!

mine doesn’t quite get done in a minute, but probably only takes 2/3 - how much are you trying to soak at once? individual feeds soak in about a minute, more like 5 for a big bucket to last a few days

I don’t use that but I do use meadow cobs. 1 hour in cold water, 30 mins in hot water.

I can get them pretty much ready to feed in 5 mins with boiling water.

It takes longer than 60 seconds. I vaguely remember there being an issue with soaking time a while ago. I'll try and find it.
I remember Fast Fibre had a soaking issue taking a bit longer but the last few batches were fine. It says on the bag for the Spillers one that it's 60 seconds and doesn't say that that's with hot water either. Weird 🤔

Only 2 cups worth. It's taking around 10 minutes to fully soak which isn't a huge issue but just not what it said on the bag!

that’s bizarre, mine definitely doesn’t take that long to soak! have you used it for a while? possibly just a dodgy batch🧐

First time I've ever used it! I've emailed them to see if there is something going on with the batch possibly. It smells great and it's nice once it's soaked but might not be ideal when I'm short on time!

Spillers have confirmed that they are aware some batches are taking longer to soak. They believe it's due to reduced moisture levels in some of the raw materials because of the dry weather when harvesting so it's created a "tighter" pellet structure slowing down the water absorption.

Glad it's not just me!

I timed it tonight and it has taken 21 minutes to fully soak in sun warmed water. At 15 minutes, there were still fully solid pellets.

I noticed my last bag has taken longer. Not 10 minutes, but more than usual. Warm water and a good stir speeds it up.

I just got this yesterday instead of fast fibre and 1 tiny handful hadn't soaked much in 10 minutes. I ended up making a wee bucket up so I don't have to wait so long to feed it. Strange as its says 60 seconds but not one pellet softened in 60 seconds.

I always soak mine in boiling water and it soaks in 2 minutes. I have found all these mashes are much better if you use hot water for some reason.

I spoke to Spillers and they said it's because of the very dry weather we had that the moisture content in the feed is much lower so it's taking longer to soak due to being more compact. I have to just leave mine for half an hour now which is a bit annoying but hoping the batches in a couple of months will be better.
