Spine boards / body protector

Hello, I am continuing my quest to get back on board. I've been looking at body protectors but during a discussion with a friend she said her husband wore a spine board while riding his motorbike.
i like the idea of the spine board, even though it's a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted- pardon the pun!
Does anyone ride with a spine board? Would a body protector provide the same, or better level of protection? Also, would you buy a second hand Bp or is it like buying a second hand hat- a big no no.

The body protector really needs to be fitted correctly to work best. Too long and it'll restrict your movement and too loose and it'll ride up and hit you in the throat. They're not like riding hats in that you'll see if there's damage if you try a 2nd hand one. I don't know how the motorbiker ones work although I'd expect them to be a bit longer in the back than riding ones?

My husband used a spine board riding his bike 20 years ago! If he were still riding now he'd have body armour far more like a BP and also an airbag.

As for secondhand - why go to the effort of trying to protect yourself and then risk not doing a proper job for the sake of a few quid? BPs do deteriorate over time due to the materials used.

That answers the Bp protector question, thank you, I want to get measured properly too. I'd never buy a second hand hat, when I had my accident my hat didn't look damaged at all, when I spoke to Charles Owen they said the way hats are made the internal part of the hat takes the impact. Even if a hat looks fine it could be damaged.
I'd better get saving.
