So, we know who show jumps, dressages, events, shows, trec's, endurances etc....

BUT, it seems that the eventers win when it comes down to pure weight of numbers

So, if you don't event....Why ?

For me, it's the dressage mainly that puts me off...i can't be ar$ed to learn the test, i can't be ar$ed to plait my horse, i can't abide the thought of someone else telling me how my horse *should* go
shocked.gif
I'm also not overly brave when it comes to jumping solid fences...although i think i could learn to like that aspect of it. Dressage i will NEVER like though

At the moment because I have a horse with glass legs, one thats too young and no money to buy another!
So if anyone has a spare horse hanging around let me know!

Never been a fan of dressage, although wouldn't say I was bad at it, just never really had a horse / pony sensible enough for it.

I used to do XC when I was younger, but nowdays I'd much rather come down to a 5' SJ than a 3' XC fence - I think it's because I've had a couple of nasty falls over SJ's - if they were XC jumps I'd be in serious trouble! Solid fences don't fall, that scares me a bit

I used to do a lot of RC ODEs when I was younger and enjoyed them immensely. I'm not so brave now though plus it does take up a hell of a lot of time which is a problem when you have family commitments. Much easier to pop out, do a dressage test and back in time for lunch

Yep, that about sums it up for me! I LOVE jumping XC though.

The interesting thing is, that I love eventing but HATED show jumping.
I loathed going into an arena full of coloured poles which fall at the slightest nudge. (times have changed now - i enjoy this phase)

I always enjoyed the dressage even on my loony ponies (winston has made dressage far more enjoyable).
The xc to me was the ultimate buzz and best bit.

Thing is, what i love about the sport is that you get to do 3 phases! its not like hanging around for hours and getting 2 minutes jumping and then either wait even longer for a jump off or go home because youve had a fence down.

The good thing with dressage is that you get given a time, so there is NO hanging around - you can plan your day round it.

With eventing you have a time for each phase, i like to know where i have to be etc, at least you know if youre gonna be home for supper or not.

Yep that is the problem.
I usually balls up the dressage part and then do brilliantly in the other two phaseas

or get loads of time penalties on the xc becuase my horse runs off with me ARGHHHHHHH

It's what you excell at - showjumping

Having to memorise a tight course that falls down at the drop of a hat.

Love the plaiting and preening, not too keen on riding stressage - but used to love the cross country!

Thats exactly why i dont event either. I worry enough about ruining my horse without someone telling me my horse is going cr*p LOL. And i find it very boring too. I do love XC though but again the same as you the bigger stuff scares me although the more i done it the braver i would get i think.

I do agree with BB's though in that you get a lot more for you money and you get times etc. I hate all the hanging around you get with SJ for 2 mins in the ring but i wouls still prefer that to dressage

Dressage I find boring. I think its incredible when you see the top riders and what they can get from their horses but it just doesn't inspire me to do it myself. I think I lack the perfectionism and discipline that dressage requires. I also don't like the fact it is all based on one person's opinion.

Cross country is scary. For me a 1m showjump would be quite small. Show me a 1m log or hedge and I get butterflies!

I admire those that do all 3 disciplines but I will stick to my pretty coloured poles!!

Of course - I studied lucretias list the other night and that is the only thing I am missing - oh might need a different horse though

I did event once..... I did the Novice at Little Gatcombe - on a horse that had reached it's limit BSJA at Newcomers, he was lovely XC - and a WB

previously I didn't as well Dan 'wouldn't' do XC jumps, yes he would jump a 5ft showjump but XC wise even if 2ft he would stop about 6 strides out. which actually was much more amusing than frustrating!

BUT now I have a horse who will actually go XC i may be in process of being converted

2 reason - 'cause they don't make many 1ft9 XC courses (i'll have a go at that height xc) and 'cause they don't break or fall down when you hit them
crazy.gif

mainly it's because I am a wimp! I like the dressage and SJ elements

You're being hard on yourself! You did the 2'3ft at Croeslan! Did you come up for the horse trials last summer? They did a 1'9ft class then!
