Splash vs Sabino

Just found this!!

Sabino can be hard to see if Splash is also present. "normal" face markings are more likely than not just Sabino. Leg white that is higher in front than the back (of any given leg) is Sabino, and if it's higher in back than the front, that's Splash (or possibly a minimal Tobi, depends on what it looks like). Sabino leg markings tend to be pretty jagged around the edges, whereas Splash tends to be straighter.

^ minimal sabino mare. The sock has a sharp point that goes up the back of her leg.

^ small white patch on off-side. You can also see how she has a few stray white hairs in her coat (this is all over her body).

Is it the Sabino gene that can be found in Clydesdales? I know it appears in other breeds as well, but what are the chances of it reapearing a few generations down the line?

The rabicano expression has come out in my 5yo. I have photos of 4gens both sires & dams on the sire side & it is not shown there. I am thinking it came through the dam side via either the QH or Welsh, or perhaps even both.

Is the Sabino gene more likely to show up in horses with more white markings (if an ancester had the gene?)

I would say she is most definatley splash as her blaze is bottom heavy and is falling off her nose a typical splash indicator and her four whie socks are blocky. nice mare

Oooooo, this is good!
Someone on here - KayrnK I think - said that Seren could be a racoon tailed white splash rabicano.... what do you think??

All above taken before she was put in foal.... she has reallyed greyed out coat wise this winter, and is moulting out into a really roan coat with splashes of chestnut over her back...

You can see the chestnut at the point of her tummy... I have an odd little mare!! :D x

Now I am even more confused

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

On the other thread KarynK said that Whirlwindhorses mare was a classic sabino and you are saying it's most definitely splash

So who is right ?????????

As you can not test for splash or any of the other sp called sabino genes no one is right or wrong its just that when breeding with colour genes for over 30 years you start to see between the pattens and see how they affect each other, I dont hold much store in sabino other then what i have descibed I think frame needs splash to be loud in expression as do many other colour breeders and if your breeding a homozygous you seem to need splash to help you that is the benefit of my years of study.and the fact we have sucessfully bred colour in to the TB that carry splash not sabino.
so called sabino does not help other white genes express if that makes sence I am giving away all my trade secrets but I am at a place in life where It no longer matters to me who copies! re rival colour breeders I have met many colour breeders who have contributed to what i have learnt.
Adagio is a excellent example of Sabino

This stallion is also sabno but I would not be suprised to find splash in him to sabino changes the edges of how the white merges.
another splash indicator is white at the end of tails that are otherwise dark or have no white at the top,

yes its sabino in the clyde possibly sometimes with splash at a very low level.
I do not know if sabno would but splash or what i think is some sort of DW express other colour genes in a louder way.
