ok, i will have ago, splints are not always soft hot and swollen when they arrive,
they usually occur in younger horses but not exclusively.
can be unsightly if you wish to show your horse, for this reason i usually stop all hard work and ice/ cold hose and bandage, they can reduce in size given time, a lot of people dont worry about them but they can cause problems if too close to the joint or if they are fractured.

hey thanks for getting back to me!!!
its about the size of a marble..
i have only been riding once/twice a week were as normally i wud 3/4 times!!
And i have been ice gelling it!when do they start to reduce??
maybe hes just done it then :/ hes such a big wuss tho if any horses would be lame with anything it would be him!
you cant really see it unless you look really close but you can feel it!!
ill try upload a pic xx

in my experience the ones i have dealt with its taken a while for them to go down, probably over winter, the one that was fractured took 6 months to calcify, but that had some soft tissue swelling as well, probably took 12 months to staty looking smaller.

my current horse has had a couple, but i have laid off all hard work till it settles - 6 weeks ish. because i show him. had the first one lasered but nut sure if it helps.

thanks again for getting for back to me :)
Yea we have just startd showin and love it so def want it to go down!!
snice seeing it i have laid of doin as much so if i do this for another 5 weeks..
Yes its very hard just feels like bone, very cold, and he dosent mind you touching it..an there hasent eva been any heat but it is not changing in size or shape!!
i didnt even know he had a splint there before so it must of been small unless like you say ehs only just done this..can they re bang them???
its right nextd to the cannone bone, inside just below the knee..
i just didnt want to carry on riding him and make it worse does that happen??x

It sounds like it could be a splint, they are sometimes as you describe with lameness etc but other times there is no sign of them forming at all. I discovered one on my mares leg when she was turned out to grass for the winter with no heat, lameness or anything.

hey thanks for writing to me :)
what did you do to treat your mares??
yea ehs not lame or anything no heat etc!like its been there years and he dosent mind you touching it!!
i never noticed he even ahd a splint on that leg before but i think he def must have bangd it when we was showing 3weeks ago as he span a few times so must have caught it!can they reacure?x
