Hi everyone, just looking for anybody's experiences of a horse having broken their splint bone and had removed by surgery. My horse had this done last year and now is lame again, it seems that the fracture point has put down a lot of calcified bone and it's possibly affecting the tendons/suspensory. The problem I have is if it is the calcified bone my vet says that would need more surgery, which I would happily do if she was sound otherwise, but she has nivacular syndrome in front and is not quite 100%, ok for low grade work but that's it, so I can't afford/justify spending another 2k (she's not insured on that leg now) for a guarded out come. Also don't want to put her through the whole box rest again either. Sorry for the moan/long post, just don't know what to do.

How has the navicular been treated? If you haven't tried a barefoot rehab it's certainly worth considering as it has better results than remedial shoeing. If the navicular improved, would you consider having the operation on the splint bone? If the op went ahead, what is the likelihood of the calcification returning?

Hi, have the mare barefoot for the last year in hope that the navicular would improve, but alas she still
Very short and choppy in front. Even in her boots she isin't sound. She is prob still 2/10ths lame in front, if she was sound wouldn't hesitate in having the surgery. Hoping the vet says that I can just turn her away for a while, not ready to PTS, but doubting he'll say she is sound enough and that she'd be in pain.
