Hi everyone, I recently bought a horse and today I discovered he has a splint on his off fore.. It doesn't affect him when being ridden e.g. No lameness but would people recommend i boot him when being ridden as a preventive procedure so it doesn't get any worse or just leave him as he is? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Im no expert but in my experience if its hard and cold its already formed and I have seen them go down with a bit of rest or easier work if they are active. I dont think boots make much difference though. There was a product that I painted on show horse once that took it down and wasnt distressing to horse...will try to remember name but I know there was a gold and silver version and one was for active and one for old formed ones....if your sure the horse didnt have it previously I would take things easy for a while as they can get bigger if there active and you carry on working the horse....I asked my vet about horses with splints and vettings once...he said as long as they were smaller than a walnut and free from the knee not to worry...hope that helps !!

He must have had it when I bought him as we haven't really done much work that would be stressful on his legs. Its about the size of a garden pea and half way down his cannon bone on the inside.. It does help alot :) thankyou
