Splint? Help!!

I think Jack has a splint... He's had allot of time off this year, last week I lunged him for about 10 mins, this was the first bit of work he'd done in about 6 months. On Sunday he came in from the field with a hard lump on the inside of his near fore leg. It's about 2" long and 1" wide, hard like bone, doesn't hurt him when I touch it, he's not lame, it's not swollen or heated.. I've just spoken to my vet who said it could be a sarcoid(sp)!! I know it isn't. The skin isn't broken, there are no scabs or puncture wound that I can see. I have never had a horse with a splint and don't know allot about them... Will it cause him any discomfort? Make him lame? Stop him jumping? He is a show Jumper, I don't mibnd how it looks as long as it wont cause him pain or stop him jumping. What should I do, hose it? Stable him? or just carry n as normal?

If it is already hard and not tender to tough, I wouldnt worry about it as it is already formed

Splints dont cause probs once they have formed and gone hard. they may reduce in size in time

If it is a splint and it has already formed then it is unlikely to cause him a problem. He may re-absorb it in time. If he has developed a split however it is worth considering likely causes. Splints are normally caused by concussion or by a blow, therefore, consider the ground he has been worked on, Does he wear boots for schooling etc, is it possible he has struck himself while spooking? If you can eliminate the cause you should prevent him from throwing another.

as long as the cannon bone and the other bone has fused together you should not have any problems but there is some good stuff by global herbs called splint put it in to his food and it will help to surport it or even get him some splint boots for when you do work him!
