May sound a bit daft, but never in all the years of having horses never had one manage to get a splint, but the namby pamby TB I'm riding has managed to end up with one, think it was him who destroyed the fence.

Seems like he did it Thursday night as was fine when we left the yard, then on and off lame on Friday when we rode out (didn't show lame until we were a fair way out, walked him back in hand, fine in walk, he spooked and trotted and very lame).

Cold hosed his leg Friday night and bandaged it up and kept him in friday night and stuck him back out saturday afternoon.

Any suggestions? How long do they usually take to heal?

Depends on where the splint is. Mine had a high splint and that took about 2 months before he was ok again with cold hosing and ice gel aswell. He then had a lower one and wasn't lame at all. Recovery is different with each horse I think
