My girl popped a splint almost 3months ago now and she has been sound on it the whole time, until the last couple of weeks. It has grown immensley and it turns out there is now a chance that it is impinging on the suspensory ligament.
The vet is coming out on Monday to have a look but if it turns out that this is the case then we are only left with the option of surgery.
Whilst I know that there is normally a good prognosis for splint bone removal, this is a little different as it has already calcified so wouldn't be a straight forward procedure and I guess they would probably attempt to chisel off the offending bone but this would probably lay down more calcification once operated on.
Has anyone any experience of this at all or something similar?
This year has been rubbish for all of my horses and she was my last sound horse until this. I am gutted as she is fantastic and it looks like this could be curtains and she is only 5!
Any adivce/opinions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
