I wondered if anyone could help. I know this should be in veterinary, but I've had no replies.
My gelding has a splint, he's an ex racehorse, but it's happened fairly recently (beginning of last month I think, only had him 3 weeks. We got a 6 month guarantee on it) He obviously has an old one on the same leg, it's hard and it seems to me that the heat from this current splint is sometimes going through to the old one, but other times it doesn't and the old one is cool.
The new splint was going hard over night, but then getting a little filled during the day, not obvious swelling unless you touched it and prodded it. He then went gallivanting round the paddock a couple days ago, and I decided to ride him and we popped a little jump yesterday (I know I shouldn't have) so now it's filled a little more, but nothing major. I cold hosed it for 10 minutes last night and put Compagel on and his bioflow boot.
I wondered if anyone knew of any other ways of just getting the swelling to go down? I feel like we took 10 steps forward and now I've just set it all back again. I've decided to give him 2-3 weeks off now to let it heal properly. What's the best way to speed up recovery?
A lot of threads have mentioned Splintex Silver, magnetic boots, cold hosing, DMSO etc. Should I carry on doing what I'm doing, or is there something else I can do for him?
