I will stick with the advice from vet but was wondering how much time you would give a horse off for a splint.

Depends how quickly the lameness/swelling/heat goes down. If it just comes up as a hard formed splint straight away, none at all. Depends on the horse and the splint!.

Thanks .Orders for 4 weeks restricted turnout then 2 weeks walking in school building up to trot. The splint is a bit bigger than pound coin and the xrays show hairline fracture. He seems sound in field so will start work again thursday.I think concussion was caused compensating for spavin surgery and all the hacking we had to do on roads.

cellie - I do wonder if we own the same horse!

But mine was the other way round - fractured splint bone first, then buggered up hock.....

Anyway, your recovery plan sounds ok. If hairline fracture and no bone chips, he should be fine.

Didnt you say in a earlier post we were members of the unluckiest horse clique-lets hope everything goes to plan and we can get our boys up and running again.
