Has anyone any experience of reducing splints?

I've been doing some research and found LLLT (cold laser) therapy recommended but no vets I've spoken to have ever used it.

Current recommendation is for an injection of depomedrone into the periosteum.....

Does anyone have any experience of either or any better suggestions?

Thanks:-)

My girl has lateral splints..... She's bf and in work now, since becoming self trimming hers have reduced, it could just be because she is better and more naturally balanced now

Thanks for the reply -this is more of a bony lump on the splint bone due to a knock.

He's had DMSO and cortisol to reduce the soft swelling. I was just wondering if the other treatments I mentioned were worth pursuing.

He's not going barefoot

Whereabouts are you? I have a cold laser unit (not yet used it on this kind of issue though), and know some others that do, might be able to point you in their direction?

I'm in Shropshire calcyle.

I've read papers about the use of lasers but I'm not sure how prevalent their use is as most of the work seems to have been done in the 90s.

I don't want to waste time/money if it isn't going to work but neither do I want to pass up an opportunity if it might!

Have you heard of anyone lasering splints?

I've always heard it said that there are very few old horses with big splints!

Trouble is, he's a show horse. I can't wait a year for it to do its own thing!

Mine was a county level show horse and I was horrified, buying all sorts of lotions and potions, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a lot better for the next season.
Think about it , it must have gone fully for the following season, as we did pretty well!

Spacefaer, I've PM'd you about someone I reckon can help in that area :)

ETA - It's not something that would immediately spring to mind, no. Though if there's evidence for it, it may well be worth a shot. I'll do some reading about it, as I'd be interested to know. The person I've suggested you contact will be best able to help you, she'll be able to fully reason for/against why the treatment would work.
