Hi All

Im hoping you can shed some light on what this maybe before i call out my vet, I went up the field last night to feed my 3 year old id x and i noticed he had 3 lumps on his front legs - 2 lumps on one and 1 on the other, The first thought that comes into mind is splints but im unsure if he can throw 3 splints on 2 legs in 1 night, i know they definately werent there the night before as i was taking bots off his legs and always check him over? hes not been backed yet, hes just enjoying his life eating at the moment. It cant be a kick as he is in his own paddock, he doesnt have no swelling around the lumps and there is no heat and hes not lame ? ive bought him in and cold hosed his legs but i just dont know what they are.
Can anyone help me

A very worried Natalie xx

My mum's horse has just thrown 2 splints. They appeared over a few days, his leg looked like a tree trunk and he was dog lame! He is a bit of a dangly TB so most likely hit himself

I don't really know much about them, but like I said his didn't appear just over night like your boys.

Thanks for that, I would understand it if he had 2 on the same leg but hes got them on both front legs ?
Anyone else got any thoughts ?

Thanks x

Dont call the vet if he's not lame, theres no swelling.
Heats normally expected. When my SJ mare came up with one, she was 6years old, welsh sec D, and it was because she threw me off on a hack and galloped around the roads in the village.
A few days off + cold hose she was fine, though i dont think it made a difference to her, as she's quite hard.
She used to live out 24/7 when she done it, and a year later she still lived out and i was still jumping her around 4foot corses. though when i moved yards she was in at night, and i noticed the spint got smaller? But i never called the vet out about it. There was always alittle heat in it. But she's never lame, becase of it, and for has never been lame.
My other mare has a very small one on every leg, TB 6yearold mare. - she jumps ect, does not effect her at all either, though when igot her she had them, and they sed its never affected her before. - and i havnt needed to call the vet about her splints - they never swell up, or get realy hot.
My gelding has a small one too, he had a bad polo injury on his sesamoid, and i had to get his leg with the splint xrayed - ive got the pictures of the xrays on my laptop - i can pm you them if you like?
Splints are litraly pure bone, and shldnt affect the horses preformance. Theyre like a hook - its very interesting to see what they loook like.
Honestly if your really worried bring him in for a day or two? just so he can rest his legs? But if he's not lame, no swelling then i wldnt worrie. like i sed, my mare has one on each legg, + an extra one on the back. and shes perfectly fine.
The heat is normal.
i hope this helps

Thank you soo much, my partner was saying were not having the vet out because there is no need, as he has no swelling heat and he isnt lame, but hes my baby and i didnt want anything to be wrong with him hehe :-)
Hes in now and im going to cold hose them a few times throughout the day and hope they go down.
Thank you again for you help.
I will update in a few days to let you know how he has got on
xx

splints can just come up a lot of rest will help them the cannon bane and splint bone need to knit together then they will be fine i know global herbs do a splint kit that help care for them!

If they are splint i wouldnt worry too much one of my yougster got 2 very bad one just below his knew they were quite big in comparison to what i was used to seeing on other horses, i spnt allot of money on different stuff that didnt appear to be making an awfull ot of diferance, so i left well alone and as there wasnt any heat in them and probaly 18 months later you wouldnt even know he had them.
Dont stress, i did, not worth it. IMO
