Last summer our then 4 year old mare developed a splint on her off fore. She was undergoing corrective farrier work at the time for a turned out hoof. Initially she was slightly lame so we rested for 4 weeks as at this stage it was soft and would reduce with cold hoseing, magnetic boots and rest as necessary however it never completely went away.
Over the Autumn she then developed a matching on on the other front. We treated both in the same way.
Now as a rising 5 year old the 2 splints are cold and hard. Can I have any recommendations that have worked for you? Is it too late to expect them to go away? Previously all the splints have gone away using the same as above and Im frustrated!!

My mare had one come up while she was turned away as a 4 year old. She's feathered so I didn't find it will it was fully formed. No lameness associaited at all. It does seem to have reduced significantly and she's now rising 8. Didn't do anything with it as it wasn't interfering with any movement

Sorry to not be much help, but I have dealt with a few splints in the past and none have every fully gone away. Unless you're showing I wouldn't worry about them :)
