Last summer our then 4 year old mare developed a splint on her off fore. She was undergoing corrective farrier work at the time for a turned out hoof. Initially she was slightly lame so we rested for 4 weeks as at this stage it was soft and would reduce with cold hoseing, magnetic boots and rest as necessary however it never completely went away.
Over the Autumn she then developed a matching on on the other front. We treated both in the same way.
Now as a rising 5 year old the 2 splints are cold and hard. Can I have any recommendations that have worked for you? Is it too late to expect them to go away? Previously all the splints have gone away using the same as above and Im frustrated!!
