Well Boyo was a darling for the vet yesterday, also been lunged a couple of times, and ridden once, total star, so very proud of him! However I asked the vet to check out something, very slight small lump on his of hind, which he immediately said was a splint, but was 'more concerned about the potato he'd had for last nights dinner than he was about the splint', and I was to more or less ignore it... but... do I need to do anything? he said absolutely not, now, all through my years of owning various TB's, arabs., ID's etc, I have never had a splint (nore have the neddies ;-) ) so... advice please? now I'm bringing him slowly back into work and trying to decrease weight and increase fitness, what do I do? Vet did use a term which I forgot in my harebrain moment, immobile / inert maybe? do I need to boot/bandadge him for work etc? Any advice is welcome!

Thanks, will have a good read of that now while I drink my coffee! I must admit I noticed a very small - less than a pea-size lump at the eweekend, now it seems slightly puffy round the same size lump - but I check my horses legs every day, and not noticed before... which is why I was confused! I trust my vet 100% though so will crack on with it! Thanks guys :-)

ost splints are harmless enough. The only time they may cause concern is if they are near the knee area. We use to put some stuff on splits years ago called Bone Radiol (I think) but not sure if people still do that nowadays!
If its not causing him any pain, then don't worry. If you want to boot him up when riding just to protect it, but other than that, carry on like normal.

Remember splints are mainly caused by heavy work on hard ground, so just be careful!!
