The day I was bringing in my main competition mount to start fitness training before her schooling begins for the upcoming show season a bloody splint appears on her leg! Its quite big problem about the size of a nz $2 coin but is quite soft and doesnt have too much heat in it. She was not lame when i had someone trot her out for me. I am really gutted, our first show is 7th September and it seems to be approaching far to fast for my liking. She has had her leg soaked in cold water which that brought down the swelling a little bit and has currently got a lemon bandaged to where the splint is, she is in a small paddock with no other horses and during the day she will have Tuffrock non-medicated poultice on during the day.
Is there anything else I can possibly do? And how long do you think that she should be left out for?
Advice pleaseeee! I am going into freaking out worried mother mode!!

I found a splint on one of my Shire gelding's forelegs. The vet said I could treat it with DMSO. It comes in a small bottle with a roller ball (just like a deodorant/antiperspirant container). My boy is not ridden, driven or shown, so it's just a question of cosmetics for me. Do you have access to DMSO?

I would also go with DMSO, but it needs to be asap. Make sure you don't get it on your skin!!!! It will work on most lumps and bumps but needs to be applied as soon as possible for maximum effect.
