My pony was fine Saturday night, had warm puffy front leg Sunday morning but wasn’t lame. Cold hosed & bute for 2 days. Teatime tonight not warm or puffy but I felt a small lump, think he’s throwing a splint. What do people recommend these days?

Too choices ,continue hosing get a fortnights Bute from the vets Turn away and rest for twelve weeks .
or hosing Bute and shock wave therapy .

My youngster threw one pratting about in the field! He's had 9 weeks off so far - his field has been halved (so he couldn't have another hooley) and he is in at night rather than 24/7 turnout. I popped him on the lunge last night to see how sound he was and he looked OK, so he will get led out in-hand/long reined round the block for a couple of weeks and then back on board.

My rules for splints, and all young horses kept on my hills seem to get them, is if the horse is sound ride and if not rest. I have never used bute.
