I’ve just recently bought my horse (I knew about the splint!), but it seems to be getting bigger? Apparently he threw it around Christmas time. No heat and no lameness etc. It is solid to touch, but is absolutely massive!

It is on the outside of his near fore.

Any tips on getting this down aside from splintex and DMSO etc?

My physio has given me some strong magnetic sheets to try, which we have just started.

I thought the same with it being on the outside!
Me too. Almost always inside of front legs and usually outside of hind.
Unless he moves in a peculiar way putting abnormal strain on himself I would suspect he has been injured, maybe kicked there. It looks massive, I would get it x rayed if it is growing, and I'm not one to get the vet unnecessarily.
I consider magnets to be unproven.

I haven’t had it x-rayed, no. He was 5 stage vetted when I bought him, and the vet wasn’t at all concerned about it.
Ah, but he didn't know it was going to get bigger at the time. It does look like a kick or something, but it shouldn't be getting bigger at this stage. I'd be considering an x-ray. Especially with one that big.

Thanks everyone, I shall get my vet called on Monday.

The previous owners don’t know how he did it. Apparently he was fine at night, then when they went to put him out in the morning it was there. Whether I believe them, I’m not sure. But, it’s there and that’s that, I suppose.

Frustrating as I wouldn’t have bought him with a splint that big, but suppose that’s my fault and the risk I took on him.

My horse has a very similar lump which appeared after a recent tendon injury. I’ve had it scanned and the vets believe it’s just fat tissue as it’s not attached to the tendon or any other vessel in his leg. I would get the vet to scan then you’ll know for sure.

Interesting. Is your horses solid to touch? This is rock hard!!

Yes it is hard to touch but it does move when you wobble it if you know what I mean 🥴. Managed to attach photo of it.
