Hi all,

Looking for some advice as at a loss what to do.
Really struggling with splits in the inside corners of my horses mouth. All tack fitted correctly and bit gentle as possible. Cannot go completely bitless due to competing. Been riding bitless until sores have healed completely. Once healed have been using latex bandage on bit, bit butter everyday and additionally before riding. And also have tried haemorrhoid cream. However, as soon as his bit goes back in we are back to square one. Any suggestions that might help would be very welcome ?

Thanks in advance

I use the squishy rubber bit guards, they cover the inside of the bit slightly too. Lemieux do them and someone else too but I can't remember who.
eta- it's Elico. They seem to cover more of the bit than Le Mieux ones.

Agree about being sensitive to the material of the bit I tried a happy mouth on one of my Arab's years ago and both sides were cut to bits and bleeding after a very short ride.

I definitely think it was what they are made of it was almost like friction burns, his always been fine in every metal bit I have used hence to say I never used the happy mouth again.

I have found some horses are more prone to any kind of rubs during coat change even on the mouth so worth considering that.
